Nador port investors complain of truck detention and losses

Economy of the East
The port of Nador is witnessing growing tension among a number of investors working in the field of exports and imports, as they complain that their trucks are detained inside the port for days without a clear justification, causing them successive financial losses and disrupting their supply chains related to their activity.
Stuck trucks and absent customs officials
According to an informed source, trucks belonging to Nadorian investors have been stuck for two days inside the port, without any intervention from the competent authorities, especially the customs authorities. This has had a negative impact not only on the owners of the trucks, but also on other sectors in the supply chain.
According to the same source, companies that specialize in importing a specific type of goods used to have their trucks examined without having to enter the warehouse, a procedure used in other ports. However, a new decision obliged all trucks to undergo inspection inside the warehouse, regardless of the nature of the goods or the degree of specialization of the importer, which led to obvious congestion and sparked a wave of discontent.
Fears of diversion to rival ports
A number of those affected questioned who is actually benefiting from these decisions, expressing their concern that they will eventually be forced to shift their activities to competing ports. They emphasized that the port of Nador will not play its hoped-for economic role under these measures, and may even return it to ground zero, and they recalled this reality at a time when we are only months away from the launch of the West Mediterranean port of Nador.
