In a move that reflects the growing confidence in the Moroccan economy, Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Aeolon Group inaugurated its first factory outside China in Nador on Tuesday, May 28, 2025. This mega project, with an investment cost of 220 million euros, represents a qualitative addition to the green industry sector in Morocco, and strengthens the position of Nador port as a strategic logistics gateway to the Western Mediterranean.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries, including the governor of Nador Province, Jamal El Shaarani, the governor of El Driouche Province, Abdessalam Frendo, the regional director of the Eastern Investment Center, the general manager of the Nador West Mediterranean Port, the director of the Morocco branch of Olea Technology, the Chinese ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, and other figures from the world of entrepreneurship and investment, as well as other personalities.
Built on 15 hectares of the 50 hectares allocated for the project, the factory will be the largest of its kind in the region. It will produce 87.5-meter-long wind turbine blades that will be exported to global markets, reflecting Morocco's drive to promote high-tech industrial exports. The project will also contribute to the creation of 3,300 jobs, with 600 employees starting work from day one, which shows the seriousness with which the Chinese company is approaching this investment.
During the opening ceremony, Aeolon's President and General Manager Hu Wenlong emphasized that Morocco was chosen due to its political and economic stability, quality young labor force, and strategic location that provides access to European and African markets. He also noted that the plant will rely on advanced technologies to boost the global wind energy industry, contributing to the energy transition towards clean energy.
The project received its licenses from the National Committee for Investments in March 2023 and is one of the fruits of the new investment charter launched by the Kingdom to attract foreign capital. In addition to its economic implications, the plant is a symbolic step towards transforming Nador into a regional industrial center, as expressed by the company's ambitions to make the city the “Shanghai of Africa.”.
This inauguration is not just a passing economic event, but a historic milestone in the industrial development of the eastern region, as Morocco establishes itself as a preferred destination for investment in the sectors of the future, especially renewable energy. With every turbine blade made here, Nador will draw a new map of green industry on the African continent.
