Moroccan remittances to exceed 100 billion dirhams by 2025

Economy of the East

Remittances exceeded the Dh100 billion threshold during the first ten months of 2025, in an indicator that reflects the continued pivotal role of these remittances in supporting the national economy. According to the Exchange Office's latest report on the monthly indicators of foreign trade, remittances from Moroccans reached 102.93 billion dirhams by the end of October 2025, registering an increase of 1.5 percent compared to the same period last year. These remittances represent a major source of hard currency and contribute to strengthening the country's monetary reserves, especially in light of the challenges faced by the trade balance.

Foreign Direct Investment Rises

During the same period, the net inflow of foreign direct investment increased by 39.4 percent, surpassing 27 billion dirhams. This development indicates a relative improvement in Morocco's attractiveness to foreign investors, despite regional and international competition. On the other hand, the flow of Moroccan direct investments abroad rose to more than 4.35 billion dirhams, reflecting the tendency of some national companies to expand abroad.

However, the data showed that the trade deficit during the same period worsened by 19.6 percent, as imports exceeded 682 billion dirhams, while exports recorded only 385.2 billion dirhams. This difference poses an ongoing challenge to Morocco's trade balance and raises questions about the ability to improve the competitiveness of national products and diversify exports.

These figures reveal a mixed economic reality, with remittances from Moroccans abroad and foreign investments remaining positive factors, while the trade deficit continues to widen. This situation requires economic policies that focus on boosting local production and reducing dependence on imports, in parallel with encouraging exports in high value-added sectors.
