Marsa Maroc joins forces with French company to exploit Nador container terminal

Marsa Maroc and CMA CGM Group signed on Friday, October 24, a partnership agreement for the exploitation of the West Container Terminal at the West Mediterranean port of Nador. This agreement comes within the framework of strengthening the port infrastructure in the East and developing the Kingdom's logistics capabilities.

The signing of this partnership follows the comprehensive agreement that Tanger Med Group signed with CMA CGM on October 28, 2024. Under the new agreement, CMA Terminals will enter the capital of the company that holds the concession to operate the Western Container Terminal at the West Mediterranean port of Nador, Marsa Maroc announced.

After completing the procedures and obtaining the approval of the competent authorities, Marsa Maroc will own 51 percent of the concessionaire's capital and voting rights, while CMA Terminals will hold 49 percent.

Station specifications and features

The terminal is expected to become operational gradually starting in 2027. It will have a 900-meter-long, 18-meter-deep, linear quay and 37.5 hectares of land. Spread over a total area of 60 hectares, the terminal will be equipped with eight quay cranes. At full capacity, it will be able to process up to 1.8 million TEUs per year.

This partnership brings together two key players in the port and maritime sector, as the terminal will benefit from CMA CGM's global network capable of generating a high volume of cargo traffic, along with Marsa Maroc's operational expertise and local presence.

The partnership is expected to contribute to the development of a modern terminal at the West Mediterranean port of Nador that meets the highest international standards in terms of performance and connectivity. It will also strengthen the port's position as a major transshipment hub in the Mediterranean and enhance Morocco's logistical attractiveness to global shipping lines.
