Marchica launches 2026-2027 investment program to rehabilitate urban spaces in Nador

Oriental Eco

Earlier this year, the Lake Marsica Site Development Agency announced the launch of a 2026-2027 investment program, including the issuance of requests for proposals for infrastructure projects in and around the city of Nador. This program comes in the context of the agency's urban development path in the eastern region, with the imminent opening of the West Mediterranean port of Nador, which is expected to redraw the logistics map of the region.

Urban rehabilitation projects in coordination with local communities

The program includes three main axes. The first is the rehabilitation of the urban core of Nador, specifically the Damir neighborhood and Mohammed V Street, with the aim of revitalizing this commercial and urban hub. The second is the restructuring of the Gassi neighborhood in Beni Ansar to improve living conditions in a sustainable manner. The third is the completion of the Janan Airport project, which is designed to be an attractive local and regional hub.

These projects were developed in coordination with the Nador Region and the concerned municipalities, in line with the Agency's Board of Directors' directives and environmental rehabilitation priorities.

18 million dirhams to maintain green spaces

On a parallel level, a program to maintain and value the green spaces created by the agency as part of its previous projects was launched in January 2026. The total investment is estimated at 18 million dirhams and covers an area of about 20 hectares distributed on the Nador sea corniche, Airport and Taouima streets, and Hassan II Street in Beni Ansar.

More than fifty specialized workers were mobilized to carry out tree and palm pruning, mowing, watering, fertilization, and phytosanitary treatments, in addition to rehabilitating irrigation systems and transporting seedlings.

Flood prevention among intervention priorities

As part of lake perimeter management, the IAEA continued its valley cleaning campaigns within its intervention areas, with the aim of improving rainwater drainage and reducing the risk of flooding. These operations resulted in the collection of over 40 tons of waste, contributing to the reduction of lake water pollution.

These initiatives are part of the structural transformations taking place in the East, where the West Mediterranean port of Nador, once opened, is expected to be an influential economic tributary on the industrial, logistical and maritime levels.
