During its meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Moroccan Council of Government approved draft law 35.25 establishing the 2030 Foundation, a new national body that will oversee the preparations for the Kingdom's hosting of major sporting events, notably the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, organized by Morocco in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
The move comes in the context of implementing the royal directives issued by the ministerial council held on December 4, 2024, which stressed the need to mobilize all means and resources to make hosting the World Cup an exceptional event that consolidates Morocco's leadership on the continent and internationally. Mustapha Bettas, the government's official spokesperson, stressed that the foundation will play a pivotal coordinating role similar to an “orchestra conductor,” by unifying and harmonizing the efforts of the various parties involved, both at the central and local levels.
The organization's tasks include overseeing the acceleration of organization-related projects, especially those related to sports infrastructure and transportation facilities, including stadiums, airports, railways, and road networks. It will also coordinate with international bodies, such as FIFA and CAF, to follow up on the implementation of Morocco's commitments and ensure respect for globally recognized organizational and technical standards.
