Laroui Airport starts operating its new control tower

Economy of the East

Nador-Aroui Airport is entering a new phase in the modernization of its facilities, following the commissioning of a new 26-meter-high control tower that adopts advanced technical equipment in the field of air navigation. This transformation comes as part of the implementation of the «Airports 2030» strategy, which aims to raise safety standards and improve the flow of air traffic, especially after the airport exceeds the threshold of one million passengers in 2024, reflecting the increasing transit traffic to and from the East.

The operation of the tower represents a structural step in the development of air traffic control, as it is part of the ONA's approach to modernizing the communication system and processing air traffic data. Mariam Drioui, head of the airport's air navigation department, emphasized that the bureau continues to adopt advanced digital equipment to increase the capacity to respond to the increasing volume of flights and ensure a higher level of field control of aircraft movement.

The new control tower has eight floors equipped with modern communication systems, accurate information processing and continuous meteorological monitoring, making it one of the central technical facilities in the region. Its importance is highlighted in enhancing the airport's operational capacity, especially during periods of high flight intensity, without compromising safety and quality.

The smooth transition to the new building demonstrates the level of coordination between air traffic safety technicians and air traffic controllers, as this process took place without any interruption to services or operational routes related to takeoffs and landings. This reflects the readiness of the technical and human teams to accommodate and manage this transition in accordance with the standards adopted in the air navigation sector.

Droui also pointed out that the operation of the tower comes in the context of an ongoing dynamic in the modernization of airport structures, through approaches that adopt innovation and improve the quality of services, ensuring a more stable and safe experience for travelers, and in line with the expected development of the air offer in the eastern region. This step is part of a general vision aimed at raising the readiness of Moroccan airports and keeping pace with international standards adopted in air traffic management.

With this development, Nador Laroui Airport strengthens its position within the national air transportation network, benefiting from an advanced technical infrastructure that will contribute to consolidating its role as a link between the eastern region and international transit areas, while ensuring the safety and fluidity required by a growing aviation traffic.
