Regional multi-service company allocates Dh10.5 billion to improve water and sanitation services

The Board of Directors of the Regional Multi-Service Company for the East (SRM-ORI) has approved a development plan for the period 2026-2030 that includes the mobilization of more than 10.5 billion dirhams to develop potable water and liquid sanitation services in the East. This budget includes the allocation of 2.01 billion dirhams for the current year 2026, in addition to the creation of 230 new jobs in technical, administrative and financial fields.

These investments aim to improve the quality of services and optimize the management of distribution facilities in 124 communities in the region. They also focus on implementing measures to conserve water resources and protect the environment from various forms of inappropriate exploitation and climatic fluctuations.

Six projects to improve services in 2025

The Regional Multi-Service Company of the East has launched six major projects through 2025. The first project concerns the start of tertiary treatment works at the Oujda sewage plant and the reuse of treated water for irrigation of green spaces and golf courses in Oujda and neighboring areas.

The second project is related to the rehabilitation of liquid sanitation networks and individual connections. The third and fourth projects are related to the launch of studies to expand the sewage plants in Greater Nador and Beni Ansar, in addition to the rehabilitation and expansion of liquid sewage networks in several village centers.

The latter projects include studies related to the reuse of treated wastewater to irrigate golf courses and green spaces in Nador, Beni Ansar and Saïdia, as well as the rehabilitation of liquid sanitation networks and individual connections.

The Regional Multi-Service Company of the East manages sanitation services in 30 urban and rural centers for 1.6 million inhabitants connected to the sanitation network, with a connection rate of 91%. The regional sanitation infrastructure includes 26 operational sanitation stations, 70 lifting stations and 5,145 kilometers of sanitation network.

Rehabilitation works in Taourirt and Laayoune Sidi Mellouk

The rehabilitation and modernization of the main disinfection channel in the city of Taourirt began with an investment of 11 million dirhams. The project aims to ensure the sustainability of the sanitation network by diverting wastewater from residential areas, and includes the renovation of a 1,730-meter section of the main canal and a 640-meter section of the pumping canal, as well as the construction of ancillary infrastructure and the repair of sidewalks and roads.

Works to expand the sanitation network in the city of Laayoune Sidi Mellouk began with an investment of 5.3 million dirhams. The works include laying 7.4 kilometers of wastewater channels and individual connections for 360 residences in the Ain El Dafla 3 and Taqaddam 3 neighborhoods.

These measures reflect the company's commitment to ensure an integrated and advanced management of potable water, electricity and liquid sanitation services to meet the growing needs of the region's citizens, said Mounir Oukhoya, general manager of the Regional Multi-Service Company for the East.
