East Region Second Nationally in Individual Business Registration at 11.8%

Between January 1 and August 31, 2025, 72,343 new businesses were counted in Morocco, an increase of 17.5% compared to the same period in 2024. This figure includes 52,094 legal persons and 20,249 self-employed persons. In terms of geographical distribution, the Tangier-Tetouan-Hoceima region stands out with 19.91 TP3T of self-employed registrations, followed by the East with 11.81 TP3T, indicating a gradual transition of the informal economy towards the legal framework. The East benefits from territorial development policies and local initiatives in the agro-food industry and the traditional industry, and represents a reservoir of semi-skilled jobs necessary for the economic inclusion of youth and women in peri-urban areas.
In terms of national indicators, the Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office registered 91,913 negative certificates for trade names, 21,038 trademarks, 1,912 patent applications, and 4,087 industrial drawings and models. Universities dominate innovation with 65% of filed patents, followed by individuals with 18% and enterprises with 14%. The pharmaceutical sector is concentrated on 27% of patents and biotechnology on 13%. Casablanca-Settat continues to dominate with 39.1% of created legal persons and 53.31% of Moroccan trademarks, while Rabat-Salé-Quneitra recorded growth with 37% and Marrakech-Asfi with 19.1%. The Dakhla-Wadi al-Dahab region achieved an exceptional growth of 425% in self-registrations.
