Remittances from Moroccans living abroad fall to 81.7 billion dirhams

Economy of the East
Remittances from Moroccans living abroad declined slightly during the first eight months of 2025, reaching 81.7 billion dirhams, according to preliminary data released by the Exchange Office. This level represents a decrease of 0.6 percent compared to the same period in 2024, when remittances amounted to 82.2 billion dirhams at the end of August last year.
This decline means that the volume of remittances from Moroccans living abroad decreased by about 490 million dirhams on an annualized basis. Although this decline remains relatively limited, it comes after years of continuous growth in these financial flows, which constitute one of the main sources of hard currency for the national economy.
These figures reflect the impact of several potential factors, including economic fluctuations in the countries of residence, exchange rate developments, as well as changes in the saving and consumption patterns of the Moroccan community abroad. The slight decline may also be due to the slowdown in economic activity in some European countries that host large numbers of Moroccans.
Remittances from Moroccans living abroad play a vital role in supporting domestic consumption, improving the standard of living of thousands of Moroccan families, and boosting Morocco's foreign currency reserves. Monitoring the evolution of these remittances over the coming months is necessary to assess the continuity of this trend and its impact on the country's macroeconomic balances.
