Akhannouch warns of medical inaction and announces new health reforms

Economy of the East

Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch called for more resources for doctors, but warned that strict measures will be taken against those who fail to perform their duties or deviate from their duties in the public service to work in the private sector. Akhannouch emphasized during his speech that the Kingdom has high quality doctors and health staff who deserve to have all the means to work, but unfortunately there are people who do not perform their work as required, and against them the necessary decisions will be taken.

Akhannouch made the remarks while addressing Health Minister Amine Tahraoui in Marrakech during the fifth leg of the “Path of Achievements” communication tour, which was held on September 20, 2025, and brought together the political bureau, RNP ministers, and thousands of activists and sympathizers.

The prime minister added that no doctor should forget the oath they took, and if they have a task that must be accomplished in a public hospital, they must take responsibility for patient care. Regarding some partners who do not respect the law and divert doctors from their duties in the public sector to work elsewhere, he emphasized that the government will not allow this, and called on them to look for other doctors because the noose will be tightened.

Akhannouch revealed that the Minister of Health has received clear instructions to get things back on track as soon as possible. The prime minister also touched on the health sector more broadly, emphasizing that this government has brought about a major reform, mobilized greater resources and put in place new laws.

Akhannouch explained that the government has built and continues to build university hospital centers, and that those not yet completed will be completed between the end of this year and next year. It will also deploy regional health clusters in the different regions. These clusters will be autonomous, with their own doctors from the region and their own means, and will decide on regional mobility with greater autonomy.

The Prime Minister noted that the pilot trial of this new health organizational scheme is currently underway in Tangier, stressing that this model will be applied in other regions during the coming year. These statements come in the context of efforts to develop the Moroccan health system and ensure the commitment of its workers to their professional duties, especially in light of the challenges faced by the public health sector and the need to enhance the quality of services provided to citizens.
