Marchica receives license to operate Atalion's recreational port and joins the Mediterranean ports

MARCHICA and MARCHICA Med participated in the sixth edition of the Mediterranean Days of Coastal and Port Engineering (PIANC MedDays 2025) in Tangier on October 29-30, an event held for the first time in Morocco and Africa. This participation came to highlight the integrated management of the Moroccan coastline, a theme that the Marcheca project embodies as a model for integrated rehabilitation in the Mediterranean region, combining economic development and tourist attraction with environmental conservation. The event was attended by a group of experts, engineers, researchers and decision-makers at the national and international levels, under the supervision of the Ministry of Equipment and Water.
Port facilities in the service of maritime tourism
The Marcheca project has been characterized by significant achievements in the field of port development, most notably the creation of the Atalion recreational port located in the heart of the lake. This port is a lever for tourism development, as it is integrated into a residential and commercial complex and provides modern infrastructure in a privileged natural setting. A maritime canal directly connecting the lagoon to the Mediterranean Sea has also been completed, allowing boats to move easily between the port and the waterfront. This openness enhances the maritime attractiveness of the site, increases its appeal to yachts and pleasure boats, and contributes to establishing it as a destination for recreational maritime activities.
On the digital front, the launch of SmartMarina, a solution developed by PORTNET, marked a step towards the intelligent management of recreational ports. In an important development, the maritime facilities of Lake Marcheca and the Attalion Recreational Port were recently granted an exploitation license, putting an end to years of unregulated management and marking the beginning of a new phase of structured and safe management of these port structures.
Organizational pathway
This achievement is the result of a meticulous process overseen by the new management of Marchica and Marchica Med, in close coordination with local authorities and the competent departments of the Ministry of Equipment and Water, mainly the Directorate of Ports and Maritime Public Domain and the National Agency for Ports (ANP). Thus, Marchica is officially on the national and international maritime map as a new Mediterranean port, reflecting its commitment to an approach based on innovation, sustainability and the attractiveness of the coastal area.
MARCHIKA embodies Morocco's vision of a modern and sustainable maritime space, open to the future and stretching towards the Mediterranean. By combining economic development, innovation and respect for ecosystems, Marchica stands out as a lever to enhance the competitiveness of Moroccan ports, and a symbol of the Kingdom's presence in the Mediterranean arena.
