The Ahfir community of Berkane is undergoing a qualitative shift in the field of urban development, as local authorities are expediting the approval of a strategic partnership agreement to rehabilitate the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in this border town located on the border with Algeria.
This ambitious development project is part of the National Initiative for Human Development and aims to rehabilitate and restructure a wide range of neighborhoods that suffer from a severe lack of basic facilities and infrastructure. The geographical scope of the project includes the neighborhoods of Labghada, Massoud, Mohammadi, Awatif, and the Administrative District, in addition to the neighborhoods of Wadi Dahab, Al-Wafaq, Al-Quds, Al-Saada, Al-Nasr, Nasr, Riyadh, Al-Masira, and the city center.
The comprehensive development plan includes a radical improvement of the quality of life through the development of infrastructure in all its aspects, as these neighborhoods will witness the modernization of the public lighting system with advanced smart technologies, the improvement of traffic and urban signaling systems, as well as the installation of an advanced system of surveillance cameras to ensure public security and safety for citizens.
This project is characterized by its gradual and thoughtful approach, as it was divided into two consecutive time phases, with a clear strategy to complete the first phase by the end of 2025, which reflects seriousness in implementation and commitment to the specified dates to achieve the desired results as soon as possible.
In financial terms, the total cost of the project is 23 million dirhams, and this huge budget was distributed in a participatory manner between the General Directorate of Territorial Communities, which will contribute 15 million dirhams, and the Ahfair Community, which will bear 8 million dirhams of the total cost, which shows the cooperation and coordination between different administrative levels to make this important development project a success.
This project represents a clear example of the Moroccan state's commitment to promoting balanced development in all regions, especially those located in border areas that require special attention due to their strategic location and their security and economic importance, as this initiative provides practical and concrete solutions to the multiple challenges faced by local communities in these vital areas.
This transformative project is expected to significantly improve the overall urban appearance of Ahfair, in addition to raising the quality of life for the thousands of residents living in these neighborhoods, enhancing the investment attractiveness of the area and creating new opportunities for sustainable economic and social development.
